He should qualify for a Disabled Facilities Grant of £30k to add a downstairs bedroom. The lovely guy from the council thought we'd have no chance of adding a bathroom to the build for the money, but I was wondering if you thought there might be a way within the budget. I'd love to do it once, and do it right, but as I'm recently widowed, I'm not comfortable in taking out a new mortgage just at the moment and anything over £30k would have to be funded by me. Access is also an issue, and I'll have to have an outside step lift put in. I need to find alternative funding for this because £10k is a big chunk to lose from the build kitty.
